Whately is a town that is located in Franklin County, Massachusetts. The population is about 1500 people according to the 2010 census. Settled originally as the northern part of Hatfield, the town became its own established entity in 1771.

It is a largely rural town with many scenic landscapes. The town is known for being the site of the first gin distillery in the state. The Whately Inn is a very popular spot to dine in town. The food and service is fantastic and you get a lot for your money. It is a top notch restaurant. The town also has the Whately Diner which is very good, and Tom's Hot Dog.

For things to do in Whately, there is swimming and kayaking at the Tri-Town Beach. And there is the Whately Historical Society Museum.
